Man Tried To Rob People Outside State Capitol, Police Say

A man from the region is facing charges after he allegedly tried robbing people near the state Capitol.

State police in Albany were called just before 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, with a report that a man with a knife was demanding money from people on Madison Avenue, outside of the Empire State Plaza. 

Working with Albany Police, troopers identified the suspect as 39-year-old Shawn Haymon, of Albany, police said. 

He was arrested a short time later on charges of felony robbery and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

There were no reports of injuries from the ordeal.

Haymon was arraigned at the Albany City Court and ordered held at the Albany County jail on $50,000 bond.
